Aasha ke Pankh partnered with Shrama Vahini which is a registered trust, that is working for the welfare of bonded labourers in the State of Odisha, to support a rescue operation. Shrama Vahini is unique in the manner that, it was formed by released bonded labourers, hence it extensively focuses on bridging the gap between vulnerable communities and the government. Their mission is to identify, rescue, and rehabilitate survivors of bonded labour, while also raising awareness about child labour and unsafe migration.
The trust aims to ensure the safety of bonded labourers, while also ensuring that they have access to their rights provided by the legal framework. They seek to work towards building a society that is free of the practices of bonded labour, while promoting safe migration practices. Furthermore, Shrama Vahini envisions a future where the government takes full ownership of bonded labour cases, from rescue to rehabilitation.
Shrama Vahini is actively working with over 5000+ bonded labour survivors, with about 1400+ bonded labourers already registered in their association. They aim to register an additional 2000+ survivors and ensure that no one is left behind in their journey towards restoring lives.
The funds provided by Aasha ke Pankh will be allocated as follows:
- Travel, accommodation, and food (for advocacy work and narrative-building): ₹35,000
- Educational support (for SC/ST students): ₹30,000
- Vocational training (for youth and women survivors): ₹35,000
This funding will help the Trust’s board members and survivor leaders travel for advocacy efforts, provide educational support to marginalized children and also offer vocational training for survivors, especially women, to aid in their livelihood development.
